Travelling with an EpiPen: how to carry it safely

Travelling with an EpiPen: how to carry it safely

Travelling with a severe allergy takes a little planning, but it should never stop you from going. Whether it is a weekend away or a long trip, your adrenaline auto-injector (EpiPen, Anapen, Jext) must stay effective, within reach and at the right temperature.

1. Keep it at room temperature, not in the fridge

Adrenaline pens are usually stored at room temperature — the manufacturer's leaflet typically gives a range around 15–25 °C. Heat (a parked car, the beach, a summer hike) and freezing both degrade the medicine. An insulated EpiPen case helps limit sudden temperature swings.

2. Always carry two pens

Allergists generally recommend carrying two auto-injectors at all times. Our pink velvet pouch and our kids' patterned case hold two pens side by side.

3. In the car, never in the glove box

The inside of a parked car can get extremely hot in summer. Keep your case with you, not in the boot or the glove compartment.

4. Beach, pool and hiking

Put the case in your bag, in the shade, away from hot sand. The insulated lining slows down the effect of outside temperature changes.

5. Bring your prescription

Always travel with a copy of your prescription, ideally in English, and your allergy action plan if you travel with a child. It helps at airport security and if you need a replacement abroad.

Conclusion

With a Carry Box insulated case, travelling with an EpiPen becomes simple and discreet. Read also flying with insulin.
